Hello all and Happy 2017 ! Over the last 3 years magic lantern developers have been working on reverse engineering raw bit reduction ,
finally in late fall of 2016 a big break thought ! a1ex discovered that Canon has 10 , 12bit raw format all ready there it was a matter of turning on the options and of course make the code complaint to ML raw video format (MLV) . Sounds easy right ! Will not so as the Preview/Liveview is in 14bit and when you record 10 or 12bit the preview lockup but not the camera. About half of the cameras that support Magic Lantern have workable bit reduction (10-12) so don’t expect to have bit reduction in any of the nightly builds just yet , if you want to test it out , you will have to compile the source code yourself or ask nicely on the 10-12bit thread and maybe someone will help you out . But it would be better if more people could help with “C” code to get all the cameras working with bit reductions.
Shot this with my 5D Mark ii with new bit reduction code @ 10bit 2144×1076 23.976p in 3xcrop mode , used EF24-70 f2.8L @ 35mm with crop @ 2.60 that work out 91mm . Now with bit reduction i get about a 30% smaller file then extract with mlvfs to get my 16bit Cdng’s.
